How to get mileage reimbursement?

According to the Federal travel regulation, the eligible person can calculate his mileage reimbursement by multiplying the distance traveled by the rates.

The computation method for the reimbursement is determined under § 301-10.302.

For employees:

  • Employees are eligible to get mileage reimbursement from their employers when they travel for business purposes. Though it is not law-bound, sometimes state laws suggest the employees provide reimbursement.
  • So, to get your reimbursement you will need to provide a record of your mileage, with information on every business trip from date to destination and all.
  • So, it’s better if you keep a record of your mileage accurately to later use it for reimbursement.

For self-employed people:

  • You can use the standard reimbursement rate to calculate your mileage reimbursement if you travel by privately owned vehicle for business purposes.
  • Self-employed persons can claim their mileage deduction by submitting proof of business miles.

Every year GSA sets the mileage rates for people to get reimbursement to ease the load of mileage expenses from the citizens. So, enjoy these save-on-your-pocket people by keeping a record of your mileage.
