ACTC/EITC Delay Reason 2024

ACTC/EITC Delay Reason 2024

Tax season has started from 29 January to 15 April 2024. Many taxpayers who filed their tax returns early online may have already received their tax refunds. Taxpayers who have claimed additional credits, such as ACTC/ EITC are still waiting for their refunds.

Generally, the IRS processed your refunds within 21 days of filing your return electronically. With paper check returns, it could take two weeks or more time as the refund check will be mailed to your address.

But with ACTC/ EITC claiming taxpayers had to wait for their tax refund due to the following reasons:

  • The IRS has to wait till mid-February to process the tax refunds of the taxpayers who have claimed additional credits ACTC/ EITC due to the federal PATH law. In the PATH (Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes) law, the federal government has limited the agency to process tax refunds of ACTC/ EITC to avoid any scam and review the return. Most of the taxpayers who claim ACTC/ EITC may have already received their refunds from 27 February if they have filed their tax returns early and electronically.
  • Your refund can be delayed as the IRS needs more time to review your tax returns or need more information related to your claims. The agency will contact you when they need extra or more information regarding your tax returns.
  • Your filed tax returns have missing information, or they contain errors, which could lead to delays in your tax refunds.
  • You have filed the tax returns via mail.
  • You have not chosen direct deposit as your refund method.
  • Your return was referred to the agency by the bank due to suspicious activity.
  • You have filed your tax returns during the peak time of tax season, hence the agency would need more time to review your tax returns.

When can you expect your ACTC/ EITC tax refunds?

Taxpayers who have claimed the additional credits ACTC/ EITC can expect their refund in March 2024.

According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the ACTC/ EITC can expect their tax refunds from 27 February 2024 for taxpayers who have filed tax returns electronically.

The restricted period has passed and now the IRS will move forward with processing the tax refunds of ACTC/ EITC applicants. The paper check returns can reach you in March 2024 if the return is error-free.
