Annual Carer Supplement Payment 2024 –  Eligibility to get a payout $600!

The Australian government provides support to carers through Carer Supplement annual payment. The 2024 Annual Carer Supplement payments have already begun on 3 July 2024, let’s see what you can expect from the Australian Carer Supplement. 

Annual Carer Supplement Payment 2024

The Australian government provides financial support to Australian citizens with caring responsibilities or people who receive carer or Department of Veterans Affairs payments from the government. It means-tested income support for all the carers providing care to people with disability or limited mobility. 

The carers expecting the payment can receive the payment soon. According to the reports, Services Australia has begun the annual carer supplement payments for eligible carers between 3 July 2024 and 2 August 2024.

Services Australia manages the Australian Social Security system and the authority will provide the carer supplement to the eligible carers for each eligible person in their care. 

The supplement aims to provide income support to carers who provide unpaid care to people. According to the latest reports, the number of people receiving the career supplement has risen over the years, and most of the people who receive the payments are aged between 16-64. 

Who can receive the Annual Carer Supplement Payment?

Carers’ who meet the following eligibility requirements are eligible for the annual Carer Supplement:

  • You will receive the annual payment when you receive the following allowance or payments:
  • Carer Allowance
  • Department of Veterans Affairs Partner Service Pension and Carer
  • Carer Payment
  • Carer Service Pension under the Department of Veterans Affairs
  • You will receive the payment if you receive one of these payments in a period that includes 1 July of the year, meaning you will receive the payment for 2024 when you receive any of the above payments during a period that includes 1 July 2024. 
  • Carers who only have a carer Allowance health care card cannot receive the annual carer supplement payout. 

How much will you receive through the Annual Carer Supplement Payment?

The carer receives the eligible annual carer supplement payment based on the percentage of the care they provide to the people under their care and the situation of the carers. According to the reports, the carers will get a carer supplement of $600 for each eligible payment they qualify for based on their degree of care. 

The carer receives the $600 payment with their regular carer payment and allowance. The carers would receive the carer supplement based on the following principles:

  • Part payments: If the carer receives the part payments of the carer allowance, he/she will receive the part payout of the annual carer supplement, for instance, the two careers provide care for one person, in that case, they both will receive the carer allowance for that one person partly. Hence the carer will receive the carer supplement based on the carer allowance they receive from the authority.
  • Multiple payments: The carer can receive multiple carer supplement payments for each payment they receive from the government. For instance, if you receive two payments like carer allowance and carer payment, you will be eligible for two carer supplements under the annual carer supplement program. 

The carers get the annual carer supplement based on each eligible payment, so you can expect a good amount for the care you provide to disabled and elderly people. The full amount of the Carer supplement will go to the following accounts:

  • Income Management account: You can access the account with your Basics Card and check the payment.  
  • Enhanced Income Management Account: You can access the Enhanced Income Management Account via SmartCard. 

How to claim the Annual Carer Supplement Payment?

The eligible carers who receive one of the government benefits and payments mentioned above will automatically receive the payment on the designated dates. The authority extracts the data from the carer allowance, carer payment, and other allowances & payments applicable under the carer supplement to identify the recipients of the annual carer supplement. 

So, the carer doesn’t have to do anything, if he/she receives any of the eligible payments from the government to unlock the annual carer supplement. The government will process the care supplement payout between 3 July and 2 August 2024, so all the carers can expect their supplement payment based on each eligible payment. 

What to do if you haven’t received your career supplement?

The carers who think they are eligible for the annual carer supplement and haven’t received the payments in the given period can follow the below steps to ensure their payment:

  • First, go to myGov Australia
  • Next, navigate to the payments and claims section of the myGov Services.
  • Next, click Manage Payments and My Payments section of the Payments and Claims section. 
  • Next, you will see if you have received any such payments or not in your account. 
  • You can also check your bank statement to see if the payment is made or not into your account. 
  • Next, if you find the payment, then it is well and good, however, if the payment is missing, call the carers helpline between Monday to Friday (8 AM to 5 PM):  
  • 132 717 

The authority will see your request and get back to you with the response for your career supplement whereabouts, or eligibility to receive the payment. 

The Australian government extends income support to people caring for someone which limits their income-related source and earns a good living. The annual payment will be automatically granted to your account each year as long as you are eligible for any of the eligible payments. 

The carers with eligible payments can expect the payment any working day during the designated duration, so remember to check your bank account frequently to know if you have received the annual payout.
